What is this site?
Visit Akçakoca is a travel guide to the Akçakoca district on Düzce's Black Sea coast. Our aim is that even a visitor who arrives on any page from Google and has never heard of Akçakoca can find out where to go, how and when, with accurate information.
The site is non-commercial: it doesn't sell products or services, take bookings, or list, rank or recommend businesses.
Who supports it?
The site is supported by Otel Akçakoca and Boğaziçi Restaurant, which operate in Akçakoca. The banners marked "Advertisement" that you see on the pages belong to these two businesses. The editorial texts are written independently of these businesses and impartially; no business names appear in them. For details, see the Advertising policy page.
Where does the information come from?
- Kültür Portalı of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Düzce Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism
- Düzce Governorship, Akçakoca Ethnographic Culture Inventory (2010)
- Geographical indication records of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office
- Anadolu Agency news reports (e.g. the 2026 Blue Flag list)
- Theses and peer-reviewed articles from Düzce University (tourism history, architecture, gastronomy, nature)
- The promotional site of the Düzce Chamber of Commerce and Industry, OpenStreetMap and OSRM (locations and distances)
How do we check the information?
- A piece of information is only published if it is consistent in an official source or in several independent sources. If sources contradict each other, we say so clearly ("according to some sources", "according to tradition").
- We don't give entrance fees, opening hours or prices; they change often. Instead we give the official phone number to call.
- Wherever possible, locations are compared against two separate sources (Düzce Chamber of Commerce and OpenStreetMap). Where an exact location can't be verified, we don't show a directions button; if navigation only takes you to the village centre, we say so on the page.
- The only phone numbers we publish are institutions' official lines; personal numbers are not published without permission.
- Every page has a "Last checked" date at the bottom. The whole site is reviewed twice a year, in June (before the season) and January.
Automatically updated information
- Prayer times: the times published by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) for Akçakoca district, daily.
- Pharmacy on duty: the list of the Akçakoca office of the Düzce Chamber of Pharmacists, hourly. If the data is more than 36 hours old, no pharmacy name is shown.
- Weather and sea conditions: Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0). These are model forecasts; when swimming, always follow the lifeguards' flags.
AI assistance
AI assistance is used to search sources and to compile and edit texts. Every published piece of information is checked against the sources above.
Photos
Most photos on the site are freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons; a few are used with the permission of Otel Akçakoca. Each photo shows the photographer's name and licence underneath; the full list is on the Photo credits page. Where we don't yet have a photo of a place, we never use a fake photo or one of a different place.
