Akçakoca Yellow Hazelnut was registered with a geographical indication by the Turkish Patent Office in 2019. Its local name is "mincane". Its oil content is between 48 and 63 per cent and its oleic acid content is high.

The district has 218,000 decares of hazelnut orchards (2010); together with tourism and fishing, hazelnuts are one of the district's most important sources of income. The harvest takes place from late August into September.

Hazelnuts also go into the kitchen: hazelnut tahini halva, hazelnut paste and "damat fındığı" (hazelnuts roasted with sugar) are local specialities. Fish restaurants in the centre traditionally serve hazelnut halva at the end of the meal.
